This conceptual framework is my interpretation of how all of the things I’ve learned from the IDD program so far fit together. The ultimate goal and driver of learning, training or performance support is to see an improvement or change in an individual’s behavior. Organizations have a need for training, they need to see an improvement in performance, reduction in waste, and ultimately improve their bottom line. When it comes to training, there are three processes happening concurrently: an organizational process, an individual process, and the instructional design process that together move the each other from the current state to a desired state. In an organization that might mean going from being slow and wasteful to lean and efficient. For an individual that might mean going from lacking a skill to learning a skill. For the instructional designers that means going from the analysis phase all the way through to implementation, evaluation and ultimately maintenance.
The conceptual framework demonstrates what is happening concurrently in the three different processes as we move from the current state to the desired state.
